Torrens University is excited to announce a two-year partnership agreement with META High School Esports.
The strategic association aims to enhance educational and development outcomes for students through the unique esports tournament platform, which encompasses popular games League of Legends, Rocket League and NBA 2K19.
In less than a year, META has grown rapidly to now comprise more than 300 school-based teams across Australia and New Zealand.
The competition helps teenagers improve their life skills and educational outcomes through their passion for esports, while engaging with parents, teachers and government departments.
Torrens University Vice Chancellor Justin Beilby said the strategic partnership directly links the university to the growing esports industry and its expansive audience.
“It will also create strong ties to more than 20 undergraduate and postgraduate programs including Game Art, Game Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Software Engineering, UX & Web Design and Digital Media Design,” Beilby said.
“We are looking forward to building a long-lasting relationship with META and its current and future student gamers.”
META High School Esports League Commissioner Woody Wu said the organisation was excited to engage with Torrens University in a meaningful way.
“This partnership will help us connect our growing numbers of young student gamers to the wide and immersive opportunities offered by an innovative educational institution like Torrens University,” Wu said.
META was established by the Adelaide Football Club, which also owns professional franchise Legacy Esports, in 2018.
Torrens University Open Day is taking place in Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday 11 May from 12-3pm.
