META High School Esports Wins Innovation Recognition

META High School Esports was honored to be recognised as one of Australia and New Zealand’s Most Innovative Companies by the Australian Financial Review and Inventium.

In August, META was named Winner of Best Retail, Hospitality, Tourism & Entertainment Innovation Program, and was ranked second overall in the retail, hospitality, tourism and entertainment category.

The AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies listing is the only national list of its kind, which ranks the most innovative organisations in Australia and New Zealand.

From 800 nominations, the award assesses the value of the problem that the innovation is solving, the quality and uniqueness of the solution and the level of impact that the innovation has had.

For Nigel Smart, Project Lead for META High School Esports, this award reinforces the vision and ambitions which META holds.

“It’s a good feeling to receive an acknowledgement like this from a highly respected third party, recognising that we are providing a valuable service to student gamers across Australia and New Zealand,” Smart said.

“From the feedback we’ve received from schools and students over the last twelve months, we know our league makes a real difference for high school students who may not be interested in traditional extracurricular activities, like sport or the arts.

“Resilience, communication and discipline are critical to esport success, as well as being important life skills which students learn while competing with their teams.”

The team at META High School Esports are very proud of their achievements to date but attention now shifts to the Melbourne Esports Open, where the 2019 META High School Esports Grand Final Event will be held on September 1.
